A yes, no, stop, not now, turning away, closing a device, or requesting a break can each change the interaction. Do not turn access into a reward, punishment, or compliance requirement.

Support access without replacing authorship
A respectful interaction preserves bodily autonomy, independent control, refusal, correction, privacy, and the option to stop.
No physical direction
Do not hold, guide, stabilize, or move another person's hand, arm, or device selection. Facilitator-generated or facilitator-guided output must not be represented as independent communication.
No diagnosis or guaranteed outcome
The app does not diagnose, treat, cure, assess competence, establish authorship, or guarantee speech, independence, educational progress, or a health outcome.
Qualified individualized support
Clinical, educational, and safeguarding decisions need appropriately qualified people working within scope and with the person's participation.
Urgent situations
Room to Respond does not monitor danger, provide crisis care, or dispatch help. Use local emergency services and established safeguarding channels when someone may be in immediate danger.
Protect sensitive information
Do not enter names, diagnoses, medical or school records, precise locations, contact details, or crisis narratives. The app intentionally avoids free-text participant records.
